This is the new blog page. I actually deleted the 2 previous blog pages due to the fact that I was faking too much and using too much AI to write that stuff. The good and the bad I suppose. Good in a sense that it got me really writing again but bad that it appeared a desperate attempt for approval and desperate attempt for me to build my business. Oh well, such is life. Complaining about the problems ain’t going to make it any better.
Now speaking of the good stuff. Since I left working for the corporation, it’s been a rollercoaster ride of emotions. I got a job with a mom and pop shop right when I quit in September of 2024. They treated me pretty well until I was laid off the week before Father’s Day 2025. I initially thought this is great and this is an opportunity for me to level up into self-employment. I didn’t crash down into 9 am drinking fits like my girlfriend and daughter thought. I hired a life coach and continued building my business. I framed Hawk Edit as a real estate photography company at the time. I went out almost everyday during the week visiting realtors, mailing flyers and went to many open houses on the weekends. Very little fruit came from that labor so I shifted.
I got a job as a bathroom remodeling salesman and did that for a couple months. It was pretty cool as I felt I was part of a team again and learned a ton about sales psychology and communication. I was so excited when I made my first sale for a $12,000 bathroom remodel, I slept like a king that night. Little did I know the woman who bought this had buyers remorse the next morning and cancelled the job. That was the day I quit that job. I didn’t leave on bad terms at all. I actually called the owner of the company and had a pretty cool heart to heart with the gentleman. He said I was a great salesman, I just needed to be more comfortable asking people for money. That was some great advice, actually that I’ll never forget.
That left me picking up a job at JCPenney Photos in October 2025. You see, they were beefing up their staff to handle the holiday rush so it was an easy job for me to pick up. I also thought the photography experience would help my business by offering headshot photography as well as real estate. Little did I know that the two experienced photographers they had were quitting and I was already taking on management level responsibilities at the three-week mark. Wow, just wow. There was nothing I could do but quit. They were really nice people, mostly women, and I would’ve stayed if the management could get the scheduling right. It was a one-sided your on call if we need you almost everyday. I just couldn’t operate like that for the small amount of hourly rate they were offering.
So, here I am now sporting seven sources of income. All small with a chance to grow given the water and light required. You see, even when I was working for the corporation, I always had a side-gig or 2 going. Not that I didn’t get paid enough, I just always liked doing things other than my eight hour workday that seemed so repetitive after I quickly mastered it. That actually occurred with every job of my adulthood and I’m 48 years old now. Refurbishing guitars, amps, Uber driving, contracting jobs were the most prevalent to name here.
Good evening, time to wind down for the evening.
Thank you for reading.
